AN INITIATIVE OF
The “Champions of Change” - a group of progressive and ambitious businesses from around the world, have signed an open letter calling on the world’s governments to negotiate an ambitious Global Plastic Treaty that will cut plastic production for good - and make it easier for companies to do the right thing. These are companies who are aiming to operate without contributing to the plastic crisis.
The Global Plastic Treaty is a once-in-a-generation chance to cut production of plastic, introduce harmonious rules and timelines for phasing out single-use plastic, and for governments around the world to eliminate the toxic chemicals often used in plastic. The world urgently needs to reduce the production of plastic if we are to stand any chance of reaching our climate goals and protecting biodiversity.
The treaty is currently being negotiated with the aim to have a final treaty text by the end of 2024. However, the treaty is at risk as fossil fuel interests try to derail and weaken the process.
Champions of Change has been initiated by Greenpeace International, the Break Free from Plastic movement and Plastic Pollution Coalition.
